History
Origins
Clark Door can trace its origins back to a timber merchant in Cranford, New Jersey, U.S.A in the latter part of the nineteenth century. The company developed and expanded into door production and by the 1950’s had 3 manufacturing sites in the U.S.A. with later operations in Canada, Sweden and South Africa.
UK Inception
In 1973 Clark Door Limited was formed as a joint venture between Clark Door Incorporated of the U.S.A and Christian Salvesen PLC with its original roots in manufacturing coldstore doors for the frozen food distribution industry in which Christian Salvesen now owned by Norbert Dentressangle was a leading player.
Ownership Changes
In 1990 Christian Salvesen bought the 50% of Clark Door Limited from its U.S.A part owner and Clark Door became a wholly owned subsidiary company. In September 1991 the current company Chairman lead a Management Buy Out initially partnering with 3 I’s (Investors In Industry).
Disaster Recovery – January 2005
On 8 January 2005 Clark Door Limited along with much of Carlisle suffered a catastrophic flood with its Carlisle factory being submerged in 7 feet of sewage polluted water.
Fortunately the company was adequately insured and thanks to the efforts of the company’s employees was able to successfully relocate to a new facility in Carlisle, on higher ground!
State of the art
From a blank canvas our new facility has been completely re-equipped with brand new state of the art manufacturing and IT equipment with £3.0 million of investment. The 30,000 square foot single level facility is setup to enable the business to meet customer requirements in designing and manufacturing increasingly specialised and sophisticated range of industrial doors on shortest possible lead times.
Expansion
Owing to expansion in the factory facility it became necessary to add separate offices to the outer building in 2007.
