Co-operative Retail Logistics

The Co-Op’s origins date back from Rochdale in 1844 to today's large group of companies and well known brand.

A key part of the company is Co-Operative Retail Logistics which specialises in the storage and primary distribution for chilled, produce, frozen and ambient lines. With a large supply chain network Co-Op Retail Logisitics handled in excess of 950,000 pallets and picked 10.6 million cases in 2008.

At the heart of the Co-Op supply chain lie many Clark Coldstore doors.

The Clark Coldstore Sliding Doors are designed to last in a harsh environment. We are proud of the long-term relationships we have with our customers. Clark Door provide maintenance or repairs when our customers request it; our customer at the above Co-Op installation recently commented: “The Coldstore doors are very good and reliable and do take a lot of impact, and when panels do get damaged because of the nature of construction, I have found them repairable on site by our own engineers. Unfortunately for Clark Door, this does mean we can make panels last a lot longer.”

As a modern company Clark Door have a continuous improvement philosophy – we ask our customers for regular feedback on our communication, our employees, our products, our installation and our overall performance. In a recent customer interview the Co-Op rated our products 5 out of 5; and our overall performance 4 out of 5. We have asked how we can improve that next step and are working on it today.

Door A

A double leaf door such as shown above operates at a speed of 1.5m/s. This well-insulated, fast opening, reliable door is ideal for the application shown above. The bi-parting action of the door means that a door opening from the centre will be open as quickly as possible to ensure good throughput speed of approaching traffic; and minimum open time to reduce refrigerated air loss.

Co-Op Logistics are already very familiar with Clark Door's products. Our customer commented, “The latest doors we had fitted were to replace some very old doors on site which had just started to become uneconomical to repair.” We are proud to say that this was after more than 20 years of high traffic usage.
