Sainsbury’s Coldstore Distribution Centres
Sainsbury's is a customer that needs little introduction being one of the UK's oldest major food retailing chains, having opened its first store in 1869. They now serve over 18 million customers a week with their large stores offering around 30,000 products. Behind the customer facing stores is a network of distribution centres whose role is to store and distribute fresh, chill and frozen food product. Clark Door's Coldstore Sliding Doors are at the heart of many of Sainsbury’s distribution centres providing fast-acting, energy saving, reliable doors in the harsh environment of a fast moving coldstore.
Door A
The photo shows a brand new panel fitted to an existing Clark Door horizontal automatic sliding door that has operated for more than 20 years at one of Sainsbury’s Coldstore distribution facilities. With white foodsafe PVC finish and aluminium checker kick plates the 150mm polyurethane foamed panels provide excellent thermal insulation in this -30 degree Celsius environment and maximum longevity against collision damage due to the very strong frame make-up of the door.
In the photo it is also possible to see some of the key health and safety features of the door such as the full length safety edges and the internal release system to ensure personnel can escape from the coldstore in the event of a power failure.
Door B
A double leaf door such as shown above operates at a speed of 1.5m/s. This well-insulated, fast opening, reliable door is ideal for the application shown above. The bi-parting action of the door means that a door opening from the centre will be open as quickly as possible to ensure good throughput speed of approaching traffic; and minimum open time to reduce refrigerated air loss.
